Jon Gillock book on Messiaen’s Organ Music to be released
Jon Gillock’s book, Performing Messiaen’s Organ Music: 66 Masterclasses, will be released by Indiana University Press in November. It is available directly from Indiana University Press (iupress.indiana.edu) and is already available on pre-sale (at a discounted price) at Amazon.com. 400 pages, 7 b &w illustrations, 35 musical examples, 978-0-253-35873-3. In this book Gilock provides background information on the composition and premiere of each piece, a translation of Messiaen’s related writings, and a systematic explanation of performance considerations. He also supplies details about the organ at La Trinité in Paris, the instrument for which most of Messiaen’s pieces were imagined. |

In
this album, the organist Jon Gillock performs the pieces
Diptyque and Les Corps Glorieux on the organ at La Trinité
in
Paris - the results are quite frankly amazing. I *defy* anyone
who has heard Gillock's performance of Combat De La Mort
Et
De La Vie to find a more beautiful moment in *all* of the
albums (of *any* genre) released this year.
